Welcome to Kirkbie Kendal School

This website will give you a valuable impression of the excellent teaching and learning that occurs in the School. Please read on and if you would like to visit the School to experience the purposeful, calm and friendly atmosphere that exists, you would be very welcome to do so. I would be pleased to show you around.

We believe that underpinning a successful school is the creation of an ethos where traditional values of:

  • hard-work
  • care
  • courtesy
  • consideration for each other
are coupled with:
  • high expectations
  • a desire to learn from everyone throughout the school
  • the knowledge that however good we are we can and want to improve.
It is our aim to develop pleasant, well-rounded young people who are ready to meet the challenges of the 21st Century with confidence. We are proud of what our students achieve. I feel a great sense of achievement for the school when I talk with students, observe lessons, watch sports fixtures and when I listen to our drama and musical productions. These events and interactions confirm to me that we have high expectations of our students and that they take pride in their performance. Much of the inspiration for their achievements originates from the staff that I lead and work with. The teaching staff are dedicated, well qualified, enthusiastic and build excellent relationships with their students. This in turn leads to students who are pleasant, polite, motivated to learn and as a result achieve highly.

Of course this is not possible in isolation and we value the strong partnership with our parents/carers, our school association, governors and trustees and from our first-rate team of support staff. We have strong links with local primary schools, as well as with other secondary schools and local businesses. We value the community which we serve.

As you might imagine therefore this is a popular school. We are a community where individuals are known and matter. We currently have 1037 students here and new buildings and facilities are being built to enable us to both grow in size and improve our learning environment. We will, however, remain a medium sized school growing to approximately 1100 students in the near future. Any student entering KKS has the opportunity to reach their full potential after seven years and to succeed in Higher Education and ultimately their chosen career.

I am confident that the coming years will be a period of great success.
